CLUB RULES

1.        The club shall be called SOUTHWICK WANDERERS CRICKET CLUB.
2.        The club colours shall be dark blue with gold lettering.
3.        The Club shall be managed by an Executive Committee which shall comprise Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, Captain, Vice-Captain, Fixture Secretary, and one ex-officio member. All of these posts shall be elected at the AGM (see Rule 10) and will hold office for one year. In the event of a member of the Committee being elected to hold more than one post an additional ex-officio member shall be elected to maintain a Committee of seven.
4.        The Executive Committee shall meet once a month at such times as shall be arranged by the Chairman and Secretary.
5.        The Executive Committee shall control expenditure, expel or suspend members on due cause being shown and do all things necessary for the welfare of the club, including such matters as are specifically referred to herein.
6.        If a member of the Executive Committee resigns during their term of office an additional member shall be co-opted in their place. If three or more members resign, the Secretary shall call an Extraordinary General Meeting which shall elect playing members to fill their vacancies.
7.        The Executive Committee shall have the power to co-opt additional members as it considers necessary and to form sub-committees for specific purposes.
8.        Teams to represent the club shall be selected by the Captain with assistance from the Vice-Captain (Selection Committee).
9.        When selecting a team the Captain and/or Vice-Captains must give club members priority.
10.     The Annual General Meeting shall take place during the close season and shall have the following agenda:
·         Apologies for absence
·         Minutes of the last AGM
·         Proposed alterations to the rules
·         Chairman’s report
·         Secretary’s report
·         Treasurer’s report
·         Captain’s report
·         Election of President, Vice-Presidents & Life members
·         Election of Executive Committee and Auditor(s)
·         Any other business
11.     An Extraordinary General Meeting shall be held in any of the following circumstances:
·         On the resignation of three or more members of the Executive Committee
·         On the resignation of the Captain(s)
·         If considered necessary by the Executive Committee
·         By the written request of three or more playing members
12.     All meetings shall be called by the Secretary at least seven days prior to the date of the proposed meeting (notification of a General Meeting shall include the proposed agenda.) except in the case of a sub-committee.
13.     The President may vote at any Committee, Annual General or Extraordinary General Meeting. Vice-Presidents may attend all Committee meetings without the power to vote but will have the power to vote at either an AGM or EGM.
14.     Fully subscribed members only will be eligible to nominate and vote for election of the Executive Committee.
15.     Members may be elected to hold office in their absence provided their written or verbal consent is held by the Secretary.
16.     The Chairman shall preside at all meetings except sub-committees and shall have the power to exercise a casting vote in the event of a tie. His ruling on points of order, appropriate to matters that may be discussed shall be final. In the absence of the Chairman a Vice-Chairman shall be elected to preside.
17.     The Secretary shall maintain a written record of all meetings, call meetings, attend to the club’s general business and deal with such other matters as the Executive Committee decides.
18.     The Fixture Secretary shall arrange and confirm matches.
19.     The Treasurer shall be responsible for all financial matters concerned with the club and shall present the audited Balance Sheet to the AGM. He/she shall present a statement of accounts to any EGM or Executive Committee Meeting if called upon to do so.
20.     The Committee shall be responsible for the custody, maintenance and transport of the playing gear and shall be assisted by such members that are able to assist. A nominated member shall purchase such additional playing gear as the Executive Committee shall determine with monies provided by the Treasurer.
21.     The Auditor(s) shall not be members of the Executive Committee and shall audit the accounts and Balance Sheet prepared by the Treasurer.
22.     Subscriptions, set at the AGM, must be paid by the date of the first match of the season each year, but if paid by the Annual Dinner, will be discounted by £5. Any person who has not paid their subscription by the first match, will only be considered for selection after all paid up members have been considered and will pay a match fee £2 greater than that levied on paid up members until such time as they have paid their annual subscription. Reduced rate (under 18 or not in full-time employment) and non-playing membership are available at half the full rate. Members who become un-employed during the season will only pay half the match fee for all matches while they remain un-employed.
23.     Club members playing two matches or less (exclusive of Tour matches) will be eligible to carry their membership forward to the following year without paying a further annual subscription, but this can only be done for one year.
24.     Members shall pay to the Treasurer a match fee for any club game in which they participate. The amount of the match fee shall be decided at the AGM.
25.     Intending members shall be considered by the Executive Committee whose decision shall be final.
26.     All matches played under the auspices of the club (regardless of duration) shall count towards the club averages which shall be produced at the end of every season.
The following criteria shall apply for inclusion:
BATTING: minimum of eight innings.
BOWLING: minimum of forty overs bowled.
27.     Any officer or member, on being expelled or suspended, shall upon receiving notice, deliver to a person appointed by the Executive Committee, all monies, goods etc. belonging to the club that he may hold.
28.     Any matter arising and not included in these rules shall be dealt with at the discretion of the Executive Committee.
29.     These rules shall not be amended save by decision of the AGM/EGM.
30.     Fully subscribed members only shall vote for the following awards at the AGM (or by proxy):
a.       Batting Cup
b.       Bowling Cup
c.       Most Improved Player
d.       Merit Cup
31.     The member(s) who receive the most Man of the Match points during the season shall be presented with the ‘Player of the Season’ award.
32.     A member who is elected at the AGM as a Life Member is eligible to attend all club meetings without the power to vote unless at an AGM or EGM. The said member is also exempt from payment of any match fees or Annual Subscriptions as well as being a guest of the club at the Annual Dinner.
33.*      It is an ECB directive that membership of all clubs under its auspices shall be
open to all persons irrespective of age, sex, colour, creed or sexual orientation.
Any club or individual member(s) found to be in breach of this directive may
face disciplinary action.
34.*      Under an ECB ruling passed in February 2000 regarding the wearing of
protective helmets by young players under the age of 18 years in both practice
and in matches. The key points are summarised below:
·         whilst batting helmets must be worn at all times.
·         helmets must be worn by wicket-keepers whilst standing up at the stumps.
·         with the exception of fielding behind the wicket on the off-side, helmets must be worn whilst fielding within a given distance of the bat.
·         captains are responsible for ensuring that helmets are worn in situations as above and umpires should query the age of players that appear to be under the age of 18 not complying with the above.
35. The Club Captain, and or designated Captain for the day, should use the following table when dictating how many overs per spell for bowlers under the age of 20, and total number of over in one day, as directed by the ECB
