Chailey vs SWCC 16th August
On a perfect day for cricket Wanderers eased pass Chailey winning by 8 wickets.
With the Wanderers turning up with a light batting side but a heavy bowling side, when Jamie wins the toss he lets Chailey have a bat.
Jamie and Luke open the bowling but in the first over Jamie is in pain with his shins but carries on for 4 overs going down to his 3 pace run up and turning the ball. Jamie tells Luke that he is changing which end he is going to bowl from and brings Paul on from that end. This brings Luke's swing into play and Paul from the other end was getting some major pace and lift from the lower end.
Luke gets the young T. Denbrey to start playing shot to try and get the runs going but he lofts it over the back tracking Anthony but Jamie bellows that is is his catch and gathers safely. Paul from the other end decides to hog the glory by simply bowling their 1 and 3 after some cracking pace, accuracy and lift beating the outside edge several times. Unfortunatly for Paul his only weakness comes to the crease, a young lad that he knows and he decides he can't bowl at him. Dave 'too many nicknames' Field takes over from Luke and his swinging prowess and from the off he is swining the ball like a treat, a bit too much to be honest. Dave takes the first of his wicket getting the young but older Doyle caught behind by 'Errol' making his first gloved appearence for over 2 years. Taylor comes on from the other end taking over from Paul and in his one over takes 2 wickets and no runs scored off the bat, the second wicket a little dolly that Paul broke a nail catching!?!?! Sorry that was Gemma who broke a nail while stopping a ball and continued to get a ribbing for saying it out loud. Dave in 2 overs demolishes the tail taking 4 wickets in his final two overs including a jug avoidance delivery! The four wickets were 3 bowled and one catch by Jamie.
With both of tha skippers in agreement we turn around straight away for a 30 minute stint before tea is taken.
Jamie sends Mark Scholfield and Anthony 'please stop calling me Woody' Higgs to try and knock the 54 off. mark starts positivly but unfortunatly is out for 0 trying to drive the ball over short cover. Anthony and Kim manage to get the ball rolling with some fantastic running between the wickets from Anthony making sure that Kim would need oxygen by making him run two 2's in one over. With the last ball of the short first part of the innings Anthony is caught in similar fashion to Mark. Dave Noakes comes in after tea and with the score at 31 it doesn't last too much longer as him and Kim face two very talented young bowlers and within reason they knock the remaining runs off in 6 overs.
Overall a very solid performance by all the Wanderers and a special thanks to Marco Lincoln for playing and (after only being told to umpire at square leg) umpires properly and shows the rest of the Wanderers how to keep his finger in his pocket.
