SWCC vs Buxted Park 5th June Home

On a very wet and windy day the two captains wondered out the middle at 2.30pm and decided that a t20 match would be the best option because of fading light and the risk of even more rain.

With Jamie winning the toss the thought of fielding in that weather won the race in deciding whether to bat or field so we batted first in true current SWCC tradition.

SWCC Innings

Jamie and Anthony 'Woody Cook' Higgs headed out to the middle and put on a quick 11 before Higgs was LBW for 0 and Jamie going almost straight after that for 11 bringing the formidable partnership of Jones-Hockley and Radford to the crease but unfortunatley Darren went without troubling the scorers also. Cue Gwyllim 'I will sledge in Africaans to confuse you' Jones to the crease and these two put on a handy 38 before Gwyllim being bowled for 26 with Morgan still only on 8. Alan 'I promise I am not related to Ryan Sidebottom or Roger Daltry' Scott comes in a puts on a 5 before being caught and bringing Tony P to the crease to try and nerdle his way around the very soggy outfield but he ended up only getting 4 before also being caught.Very old school Wanderer Chris Batton 'strides' to the crease to join the almost free flowing Jones-Hockley, with a nice little partnership of 18 on it's way Mogan decided to get out by letting the bowler hit his stumps and 9 balls and a few extras later the innings is over. With the weater being as unpredicatable as Kevin Pieterson's batting we decided to turn straight around and have tea at the end of the game.

Buxted Innings

Darren started well and off the first ball had the batsman struggling to fend it away to point and as Chris Batton lept like a limp gazzel to get the ball he took the impression a little too far and pulled his hamstring (an injury that he still has at the time of writing this report, 20th July). Tony Preston at the other end meant that the batsman (and wicketkeeper) had no idea of what was coming with TP's extream variety and Darren's firery pace and fast leg spinners. Tony took one of the openers stumps 'out the ground' with his deception for 0 with the score only on 4. The oldest swinger in town replaces Darren and with his deception forces the other opener to edge the ball to the now very limp and lame Batton who gobbles it up and then clean bowles one of the Clift famliy. Morgan with his Malingaesk action bowles as tight as (insert approprate comment here) only having 1 run scored off his 2 overs and the Kallis look-a-like also very tight but managed to force an error in what was becoming a dangerous partnership. Alan and Aaron come into the attack with Alan getting a vital wicket caught and bowled. Morgan and Jamie swap over woicket keeping duties as there is a lack of people wanting to bowl and Jamie takes 2 wickets in reasonably quick succession both bowled. Daren, Tony, Dave Field and Alan all have an extra over with Dave getting a stumping in his 3rd and Buxted falling way short in the 20 overs.
